You can usually find a scanner on the top of a printer .Scanners are used to convert data from the printer. after a printer has been scanned it can be modified. It can also be sent in an email like any other file. Although most scanners perform the same operation. There are 4 different types of Scanners.

The first type Scanner is the all in one Scanner. A combination device which can print, scan, fax and also make copies.

The second printer is the flatbed scanner. This is a single purpose device that converts hard copy data to an electronic image.

The third type of Scanner is the drum Scanner. This is a high quality scanner than spins film around a drum while a fixed laser or another beam of light captures the image as it spins.

The fourth scanner is a hand held scanner. A portable scanner which is small enough to drag text in books and other materials.

The laser printer is a high quality fast printer with a laser which is used to produce images the central part of the printer is the electro photographic drum. The writing process involves scanning the photo sensitive drum with the laser beam.

Impact printers

Impact printers are very basic printers. Some of the disadvantages on this printer are low resolution graphics, noisy limited, colour capability, slow printing normally in the of 32 to 76 characters per second (cps).some of the advantages are uses inexpensive  consumables, uses continuous feed of paper and has carbon copy printing ability. One of the impact printers is called a daisy wheel printer.

Ink jet printers

Ink jet printers produce high quality prints they are also easy to use and very inexpensive. Some of the advantages are low cost, high resolution and quick to warm up some of the disadvantages are nozzles are prone to clogging, ink cartridges  are expensive and ink is wet after printing. There are two types of nozzles which are thermal and piezoelectric

Solid ink printers

A solid ink printer use solid ink sticks instead of ink cartridges. Some of the advantages are produces vibrant colour prints, easy to us and can use many different paper types. Some disadvantages are printers are exspensive, ink is exspensive and they are slow to warm up.

Thermal printers

Some of the advantages of this printer is longer life because there are few parts. Some of the disadvantages for this printer are paper is expensive, the paper has short shelf life, images are poor quality an d paper must be stored at room temperature.
