Today I learnt about four different types of printer and how they work. The printers I learnt about are, inkjet printers, dot matrix printers and laser printers. The lasrer printer is is the fastest out of the three.
PPM stands for (Pages Per Minute) this means the number of pages the printer prints per minute.
A laser printer uses electro photographic technology, laser printer are commonly used in offices because they can print very fast, in fact a laser printer prints 8-200 (PPM). They would need this in a office so that they can print their work off quick.
laser printers used four colours they are:
Cyan
Magenta
Yellow
Black
A Inkjet Printer uses electrostactic spray technology, Inkjet Printers are mostley used in a house. Inkjet Printers can print at 2-6 ppm, when it is using full colour it prints at 2ppm and when it printing black and white it prints at 6 ppm. Most inkjet printers use aqueous ink base on a mixture of water, glycol and dyes or pigments. The colurs that inkjets use are:
Cyan
Magenta
Yellow
Black
These colours are the same as the laser printers colours.
A dot matrix printer prints with a print head that run back and forward, when doing this it smashes and pounds a ribbon onto the page this is how it prints.
In 1975 dot matrix first came out they were usally found in offices or i you have a lot of money you mit of had one. The down side for these printers is that they print very slowly and this would be a little bad in a office.
Dot Matrix printers use black ink, but they can use blue ink.
