  • screen resolution – Determines the number of pixels. A higher number of pixels displays a better resolution and picture.
  • Refresh rate – Determines how often the image in the screen is redrawn. Refresh rate is expressed in Hertz (Hz). The higher the refresh rate, the more steady the screen image.
  • Display colors – Determines the number of colors visible on the screen at once. Colors are created by varying the intensity of the three basic colors (red, green, blue). The more bits, the greater the number of colors. The following is a list of color depths:

  • windows
  • linux and unix

also network OS’s (NOS):

  • mac os x
  • linux and unix
  • windows 2000 and 03 server

os’s are basically the life of the computer they can be upgraded, like windows xp can be upgraded to windows 7. providing network resources to a client is designed by the NOS, access and security as well as the netework print queue.

there a few network protocols:

  • http- define the files exchanged on the web
  • ftp- provides services for file transfers and manipulation
  • pop- this can retrieve from an email server
  • dns- resolves urls for websites to their ip addresses
