INTRODUCTION:     Well I am starting  by talking about the evolution of  laptops they started making laptops in the 1970′s but the first one actually came out in the 1979, this laptop was used by NASA in the 1980 for the Space Shuttle Project.

On the date 1988 the laptop got more advanced it had a lot more that you could use on it like better graphics and a bigger, and it was called Compaq and it cost $5399.

2006 Onward most of the laptop has wireless internet connection, plus long lasting battery and comparable desktop performance.

Desktops are a thing of the past because laptops are advancing very quickly and all the things a desktop could do the laptop now could do it better and the laptops more mobile.

LAPTOPS/PORTABLE OBJECTS:   Here are some types of portable devices: Notebooks, laptops, and tablets are types of portable computers.

Laptops used to be big chunky metal boxes which weighed a ton but laptops are very popular now because cost less and they are more mobile, many laptops can have add ons like Fire Wire, infra-red port and a integrated camera.

There are even smaller portable devices like a Smart Phone and PDA’s, the PDA can offer a lot of games fun applications a example of a PDA would be something like iPod and they can run of the same software as a laptop does, a Smartphone is a mobile phone that can do some of the stuff a PDA but can as as a phone as well.

COMMON USES:     Some Common uses of Laptops are that they are portable have internet connection and can use word processing devices. Smartphone’s and PDA’s are able to fifty in to your pocket, they can install little games (application’s ) and can same messages.

These some more common uses for Laptop’s

Taking notes in school or researching papers

 Presenting information in business meetings

Accessing data away from home or the office

Playing games while traveling

Watching movies while traveling

Accessing the Internet in a public place

Sending and receiving e-mail in a public place

Here are some more common uses of PDA’s

Address book Calculator

Alarm clock Internet

 E-mail

Global positioning
.
And here are some uses of a Smartphone

Built-in camera

 Document access

E-mail

Abbreviated note-taking

 Television

LAPTOP VS. DESKTOP:      I know everybody thinks that laptops and desktops are very alike but they are wrong because desktops use very standard components like a CD Drive and a DVD Drive. But the laptop uses more specialised components like motherboards that only fit this type of laptops and they are very limited on what you can use to repair your laptop.

The motherboard are very different to each other because there completely different shapes because the laptop has to fit in all the add ons like DVD drive and CD drive so the motherboard is not a square shape it’s made to fit the type of laptop, but a desktop has plenty of  room so it can have one section where the motherboard is and there is no tight squeeze.

They both have RAM, Expansion slots and Motherboards but they all look different than each other.

The processors in both a desktop can a laptop have different needs to work so the laptop needs more on the CPU usage to take of the load but this lowers the performance but the desktops no better because the processor needs a cooling fan which take up a lot of space in the motherboard area.

POWER: A desktop is usually near a plug socket that is always plugged in so the desktop can turn on but when the desktop is off there is a battery that keep the BIOS and the internal clock from dying and losing some data.         But the laptop has a large battery which when plugged in recharges but when it’s unplugged it still works because the system power takes the electricity from the battery and powers the components.

EXPANSION/ADD ON’S:      Both laptops and desktops use them but in different ways, for example a laptop was a keyboard integrated in to the device but the the laptop is a add on to the desktop. Many things must be added on to the desktop like the mouse the monitor and the modem.    They have similar expansion compatibilities which mean that you can use the same printer or modem, because all printers are made to fit into every type on desktop and laptop
