bandwidth for idiots

April 28th, 2010 by roryellis

bandwidth allows a certain amount of infomation to travel over a certain amount off time. the bigger the bandwidth the more infomation can travel over that time period.

printers and scanners

today we were learning about different types of printers like the laser printer, inkjet printer and dot matrix printer.

the dot matrix printer was one of the first electroncic printer which used little pins that moved to form the lettering on the paper.this kind of printer would have cost £7000 and would print the infomation on the paper, badly. you have to feed the paper through the printer but when it is printing it does it on its own.the dot matrix printer is much like a typewriter as it use the pin to push the letter onto the paper.

laser printer

the laser  printer uses a toner to apply the document on to paper by mixing different colours to match the coloured documents.the laser printer uses heat and pressure of about 250 c to make infomation fixed on to the paper. laser printers dont use cartrigdes they use a tonner which has the colours cyan (blue) black maganta (red) and yellow. when another colour is needed the tonner would use different colours to make the right colour.you cannot buy tonners from your local shop you have to go to a specalist who will sell you a new one.

Samsung ML-1630 Minimalist Monochromatic Laser Printer

inkjet printers

these printers use black and colour cartrigdes to put the documents on the paper by spraying the ink onto the paper. a inkjet printer cannot print as many papers as a laser printer as it only prints 2-6 pages a minute while a laser printer can print 8-200 pages a minute. these kind of printers are used when the owner does not to print alot of documents.the printer is not very expensive but when the cartrigdesrun out yoou have to buy more from the shops which then makes using the printers more than it seem out to be.

thermal printers

these printers use special paper that turn black when heated and have been chemically treated which then come out of a poor quality when printed. although the printer would last longer due to less moving parts so
